Guideline of Positive Airway Pressure Titration for Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Yang Kwang-Ik

Park Hyung-Kook
Abstract
Positive airway pressure (PAP) devices are used to treat patients with sleep related breathing disorders including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a common disorder. PAP devices are divided into four basic types depending on their pressure delivery system: (1) continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), (2) bi-level positive airway pressure (BPAP), (3) automatic self-adjusting positive airway pressure (APAP), and (4) adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV). Manual titration of CPAP or BPAP under full attended polysomnography is currently the gold standard for selection of the effective PAP pressure in patients with OSA. The use and titration of PAP are reviewed and recommendations of ¡®the PAP Titration Task Force of the AASM¡¯ are introduced in this report. The goal of PAP titration is acquisition of the pressure, which eliminate obstructive respiratory related events. It should be understood and practiced the guideline of PAP titration for patients with OSA.
